Organizing My Books

I have two bookcases in my living room with books in them and they are out of view but as I come across the room your eye is attracted towards the area of the books shelves. What can I do to help this part of the front room not look like it is clutter with these books shelves? I buy books a lot and I have a hard time getting rid of them because I often look back in them for some idea or just reread them. This causes me to store the books in closet, basements or wherever.
