Computer Organizing for Efficiency

Computer Organizing? What is it? Have you ever looked at your computer and wondered where all the cables suddenly came from? Or tried to find a certain file on your computer, only to find that it was near impossible, due to the amount of desktop icons you have? If so, you need to think about organizing your computer. This can range from making use of a computer cord organizer to resetting the icons on your desktop.

Not only will this make it easier for you to find things, it’s a well-known fact that a work area that’s clear of clutter offers better results. So, if you’re using your computer as just a personal tool for emails and web browsing or using it to run a home office and/or small business, having a clean work space and desktop will make all the difference.

Organize Your Space

The first thing you should do is organize the space you work in. There’s nothing worse than sitting down at your desk and having to shift sheets of paper just to be able to type on your keyboard. Get yourself a little wastebasket and throw your trash in there.

The next thing to do is buy yourself a computer cord organizer – this is simply a covering that can gather all your cords into one single set of cables, making the space behind your computer far neater. Companies like cableorganizer.com or cablecapture.com have a variety of computer cord organizers for sale, so you’re bound to find one to your liking.

Organize Your Desktop

Once you have your workspace tidied, the next area you need to sort out is your computer desktop itself. Yes, it may be good to have a shortcut to get to whatever application you need to use, but if it’s by having 100 or so icons on your desktop is it really that beneficial?

Instead of having all this clutter on your desktop, look at the following computer organizing tips and try at least a couple, and see what difference it makes:

  • Any icons you have on your desktop should just be for those programs you use every day. Set up a new folder for unused shortcuts, and send all unused icons there.
  • Empty your old folders that you no longer use – they’re just taking up space and making it more difficult to find the ones you really need.
  • Clear your Internet favorites. Make separate folders for the type of favorite you have - music sites, for instance, or movie sites, or blogs.

By doing even the most basic of computer organizing, you’ll be making your experience all the more enjoyable each time your use your computer.
